Since 2009, 60-70 persons go 'missing' annually in Vasco

Times of India: Vasco: Sunday, September 29, 2013.
Vasco police have finally started an inquiry to obtain the actual figure of missing complaints in Vasco. The entire staff has been put on duty, going through past records and running all over the port town, finding details to get the figures right.
Sources at the police station said, "Some RTI papers are already in the pipeline to get the records. People and organizations have raised eyebrows after the DIG stated that there may be a connection between the missing boys from Vasco to Yaseen Bhatkal." Right from 2009 onwards till 2013, the record books are out. It showed that including male and females, every year from 2009 to 2012, the missing figure remained in between 60-70 persons. And in 2013, the figures have already reached 39. The police is investigating now, that from these missing people, how many came back, how many died and how many are still missing.
A source said, "Most of the missing complaints are of migrants who come to Goa in search of jobs and then run away after they cannot cope up with the hard work. It is then that the owner registers a missing complaint."
A large amount of complaints are also reported from the Indian Navy and Varunapuri areas and from fishing communities, like Khariawada, police said.
So far, the only case where officials doubted any link was of Imtiyaz Ahamad, who went missing from Mangaon, Raigad district, Maharashtra, this April. A team from Vasco police station has left for Mangaon to investigate the case.
