Industrial houses got public land dirt cheap, says GPP

Times of India: Ahmedabad: Sunday, July 28, 2013.
Gujarat Parivartan Party ( GPP) general secretary Gordhan Zadaphia accused the Narendra Modi-led Gujarat government of giving away 81,948 hectares of public land to 67 favourite industrial houses at throwaway prices in the last ten years, causing a huge loss to the public exchequer.
Zadaphia claimed to have got this information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
He said, "The state government has given prime public land to favourite industries at nominal rates of Rs1 to Rs 900 per square metre. The value of these pieces of land are actually much greater. While the poor of the state don't have land to build houses, the government has given away 81,948 hectares to a few industrial houses. This clearly shows the intentions of the chief minister. He has not even spared pastoral lands of the poor, which are their only sources of income."
