The Goa Right
To Information (RTI) forum accused chief minister Manohar Parrikar of
deliberately not addressing the issues of the forum and delaying the
appointment of the state chief information commissioner (SCIC).
Shrikant
Barve, secretary of the forum said, "The state CIC has not yet been
appointed deliberately by the chief minister. It is like admitting he does not
want the commission to function properly in Goa."
Furnishing
details, Nandini Sahai, president of the forum, said, "The pendency of
cases is piling up with 129 cases and 506 applications, as of now. We
unanimously want a resolution to be passed which brings all the political
parties under RTI, maintaining transparency."
Vice-president
Rui Ferreira, a lawyer, said, "When Parrikar was in the opposition, he
widely used the RTI but now that he is the CM, he says the RTI disturbs
government departments. The hallmark of good governance is transparency and RTI
helps in the efficient working of the government. The CM should fulfill his
constitutional duties and set up statutory bodies".
Mahesh Naik,
activist, said the post should be filled soon and also called for efforts to
control corruption.
