Following a
rift with the administration, the English and Foreign Languages University
(Eflu) students have resorted to RTI queries to target the university. B
Ravichandran, a research scholar, alone has filed 18 RTI pleas with over 130
questions in the last few months.
While many
questions by the students pertain to personal information about vice-chancellor
Prof Sunaina Singh, details have also been sought about Prof Meenakshi Reddy of
the German language department, who was involved in a controversy. Sriramulu, a
student, has accused her of failing him purposely.
“Things in
the varsity are for once in order and some students are not happy about it. Any
question can be asked under the RTI Act, but only those which are valid will be
answered,” said the vice-chancellor, when asked about the numerous questions
posed by the student. While the students
had put forth various demands during their protests, especially over the
suicide of Mudassir Kamran, a Kashmiri student, some queries indicate the
students are trying to get back at the administration through RTI. The petitions
include one seeking details of the expenditure incurred by the VC on snacks
provided for visitors.
Another RTI
application dated April 3 seeks information about the phone bills of the VC
between January and March, 2013.
A flurry of
questions have also been raised against Prof Meenakshi Reddy.
