Activist demands ‘Ansari Commission Report’ under RTI

A Jammu based social activist has filed an RTI application with Jammu and Kashmir government seeking a certified copy of the Justice Ansari Commission Report regarding the attack on the procession of Sikhs on January 13,
1989 by a mob in Jammu where more than a dozen Sikhs were murdered and hundred others were injured.
In his RTI application, Harasis Singh (Kranti) has requested the Public Information Officer of JK  General Administration Department (GAD) at Srinagar to provide a certified copy of the Justice Ansari Commission Report stating that on January 13, 1989 during an attack on the procession of Sikhs by a mob in Jammu, more than a dozen Sikhs were murdered and hundred others were injured.
The government had constituted a commission under Justice A Ansari to investigate the incident for fixing the responsibility and to submit its report. The activist vide his application under Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information Act 2009, dated May 10, 2013 has also asked the PIO to furnish the details of action taken by the State government so far following the recommendations of the commission.
Giving further details about his RTI petition, applicant Harasis Singh informed that the unfortunate incident happened in the year 1989 and even after 24 years, the victims are awaiting the justice therefore he being a law abiding citizen adopted (RTI) a democratic and constitutional way to seek the copy of the Justice Ansari Commission Report and sought the details of actions taken by the government to provide relief to the sufferers.
