Indian Express: Pune: Monday, April 01, 2013.
The
examination department of the University of Pune (UoP) seems to be evading RTI
queries related to the alleged re-evaluation irregularities being probed by the
Pune police.
On January
17, 2013, The Indian Express had filed an application under the Right to
Information Act seeking specific information on students applying for a
re-evaluation of their first semester papers between March 2012 and August 2012
and change of marks in each case. This is the period, according to the police,
during which the alleged irregularities in the re-evaluation process took place
as the clerks allegedly indulged in fraudulently increasing marks during the
data entry process.
The
university is yet to furnish the information sought.
A month after
the query was sent, the public information officer (PIO) concerned had sent a
reply saying the application had been sent to the examination department of the
university.
“...as and
when we will receive information from the concerned department it will be
provided to at earliest,” read the letter sent by Bhosale on February 15. One
and a half month has since passed but no information has been furnished by the
department.
An official
from the RTI cell said while the PIO had repeatedly sent requests and reminders
to the examination department, the latter was yet to respond.
“We are
completely dependent on them for the information sought. Unless they supply the
details, we can do nothing about it. Apparently, the department is having
trouble with the servers in which this information has been stored. Also, there
was a lot of overhaul in the department lately,” said the official.
