Travel firm owner threatens self-immolation, arrested

Times of India: Ahmedabad: Saturday, April 20, 2013.
Owner of a private travel company, ParitoshRaval, was arrested by the Khadia police on Friday after he threatened to immolate himself at the city police commissioner's office in Shahibaug. But before he could carry out his threat, he was arrested from his residence.
Raval said some years back, he had procured a bus, but owing to a clerical goof-up by the Regional Transport Office (RTO), the same number was allotted to his vehicle and an autorickshaw. He claimed it to be a part of a larger racket in the RTO.
Raval, who claims to be an RTI activist and has collected a lot of evidence in this regard by filing RTI queries, had submitted these evidence to the Ranip police station.
But, the cops refused to register his complaint, forcing Raval to send a letter to the city police commissioner on April 17. He threatened to immolate himself at 3.30 pm on April 19 to press for justice.
Since Wednesday morning, security was beefed up in the city police commissionerate.
