Karnataka HC asks RTI activist to avail alternative remedy

Times of India: Bangalore: Sunday, April 21, 2013.
In an interesting development relating to a big scam in the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), the Karnataka high court has asked a RTI activist to avail the alternative remedy available to him.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice D H Waghela dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL )seeking a CBI probe into land acquisition by KIADB , solely on the premise that the petitioner has an alternative remedy available before the Lokayukta of Karnataka. The bench observed that it is open to Jayakumar Hiremath, an RTI activist who filed this PIL to avail the alternative remedy.
The petitioner had placed the report of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG ) wherein it was highlighted that massive irregularities have occurred in the disbursement of Rs 6,687.66 cr for acquiring 26,674 acres of lands by the KIADB during 2006-11 period in Karnataka. The petitioner claimed that even though the CAG report was placed on the floor of state legislature on March 30,2012, no follow up action was forthcoming till today.
