Jagran Post: New Delhi: Saturday,
March 16, 2013.
In a shocking
revelation, there were serious lapses in the treatment of the Delhi gang-rape
victim at Safdurjung hospital. In a reply to
RTI activist Ashish Bhattacharya who had
sought information in this regard from the Home Ministry, it has been
said that there was no neurologist nor cardiologist in the hospital to treat
the victim.
The RTI which
was filed on December 20 had sought to know whether the government had roped in
India's best doctors to treat the vicitm? The Home Ministry referred the RTI
request to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). However, the
hospital sent back the request to the ministry saying that the vicitm was not
treated at AIIMS but Safdurjung hospital.
Later the
Safdurjung Hospital revealed that the head of AIIMS Trauma Centre, Prof MC
Mishra, and gastrointestinal surgeon of the GB Pant Hospital, Prof Anil
Agarwal, were called in for treating the vicitm. Head of the surgery department
of the Safdurjung hospital Dr Sunil Kumar, senior surgeon Rajkumar and Dr PK
Verma of the anesthesia department were also among the doctors treating the
rape vicitm. This goes on to show that the team of doctors did not consist of a
cardiologist or a neurologist highlighting serious lapses in the treatment of
December 16 gang-rape victim.
