The district
officials, who have been investigating the cases of land grabbing and bogus
wills against the builders, are facing immense pressure from several lobbies.
While the officials get anonymous letters alleging bias in investigations some
days ago, a person came in and introduced himself as anti-corruption bureau
(ACB) officer. The person approached a district administration official and
told him to provide information he had sought under right to information (RTI)
Act.
A senior
official said that the person claiming to be from ACB came with the applicant who
sought information on a land case that was confiscated by the district
collectorate. "We can provide information sought under RTI in 30 days. But
in this case, the duo came the very next day after the application was made and
started seeking information. One of them then claimed that he was from ACB and
threatened the official," said the official.
The district
officials then contacted ACB and found out that no such person by that name
worked in the bureau. However, before they could confront the duo it
disappeared from the spot.
