In a major
revelation of the precarious state of health care system in the state, the
insulin vials and vaccines for children is found to be on sale without being
subjected to necessary quality checks. Lack of a proper machinery to conduct
quality check in the state drugs control department is cited as the reason for
this negligence.
The
revelation is made by the drugs control division of the state in its reply to a
query sought through RTI on standards of quality of drugs sold in the state.
Most of the
machines used for the quality checks at the testing lab of the state drugs
control department in Thiruvananthapuram has long since become dysfunctional.
There is also an acute shortage of equipment for conducting basic quality tests.
