Mizoram State
Information Commissioner Lal Dingliana, IFS (Rtd) said that more people in the
state are using the RTI to extract information to address grievances while
launching the RTI Week in Kolasib on Monday.
“The huge gap
that existed between the Government and the people has been filled up with the
use of RTI Act, ” Lal Dingliana said in his speech at the inaugural function at
Kolasib DC Conference Hall.
Since RTI Act
has been used in Mizoram from in 2006, there have been progresses in many ways,
he added.
“The people
also come to know the government schemes and works through projects in a
clearer way. While queries through RTI in 2006-2007 was 476, in comes up high
to1045 in 2011- 2012,” he said.
Guest of
Honour Niharika Rai, IAS, DC, Kolasib also said that among the rights the
people, “RTI is very important”.
“Officials
are ready to response to any queries as the law necessitates them to be on
their toes,” he said.
Meanwhile,
some people are also taking advantage of the RTI Act as a to take revenge which
is unnecessary, Rai added.
Also speaking
on RTI Act, Madhur Verma, IPS, SP said that RTI Act creates a sense of
responsibility to the government workers. He
said it is most valuable because it can bring transparency in
governance.
Lallianpuii,
DIPRO conducted the RTI Week inauguration, and was attended by department
heads, SPIO, SAPIO and NGOs.
The
inauguration of RTI Week in Mamit was held at I&PR Conference Hall and was
graced by V.Lalremthanga, District DC. Speaking at the inaugural function, DC
V.Lalemthanga, said that India is one of the greatest countries in the world.
“People should ulitise this law to keep a check on government,” he said.
Lalemthanga
also said the government employees need to execute their works righteously so
that the people may get the information they want .
Jim K.Chozah,
Director, Information & Public Relations, Aizawl, who graced the
inauguration of the RTI Week, also spoke on how RTI Act came into being and its
objectives. He said that although the Act is made by government, it is the
people who should make it useful. Chozah also explained various issues on the
subject. The RTI Week inaugural function in Mamit was attended by Heads of
Offices, SPIO, SAPIO of each Department, various NGOs- YMA, MHIP, MUP, VC
members and media persons.
