The Goa
government on Thursday accepted the resignation of State information
commissioner (SIC) Pradeep Padwal, who had resigned from the post shortly after
a Supreme Court ruling that information commissioners should have judicial
backgrounds.
In pursuance
of sub-section (3) of Section 15 of the RTI Act, 2005 (Central Act No. 22 of
2005) (hereinafter referred to of the said 'Act'), the Governor of Goa is
pleased to accept the resignation of Pradeep Padwal, a n notification issued by
Swapni Naik, director of information and publicity stated.
Chief
minister Manohar Parrikar's previous SIC candidate, former chairman of Goa
board of secondary and higher secondary education Pandurang Nadkarni, informed
the government on June 22 that he was not interested in the post after social
activist Aires Rodrigues challenged his appointment.
