The
Times of India: Nashik: Monday, October 08, 2012.
Out of the
total 2,184 industrial units in Satpur and Ambad MIDC, only 99 have installed
effluent treatment plants (ETPs) that are functioning.
In reply to
an RTI filed with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), regional
office, Nashik, a month back, 41 industries have installed ETPs in Satpur and
58 in Ambad. According to the MPCB, all the ETPs are in working condition.
The remaining
2,085 industries have yet to comply with the norms. The MPCB officials say that
showcause notices have been served to the defaulters but they have not
complied.
"We will
initiate further legal action against those who have not complied yet,"
said appellate officer and regional officer of MPCB Nashik, A S Fulse.
If a company
fails to comply with showcause notices, a clarification and hearing is
conducted after which legal action, sometimes leading to closure of the
company, is also initiated. But MPCB officials could not tell when further
action would be initiated and what kind of punitive action could be taken.
