RTI misused for blackmailing: Parrikar.

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has condemned the misuse of Right To Information (RTI) Act by certain sections of the people for ‘blackmailing’ others.
“Some people misuse RTI for blackmailing people. Why do same people apply for the RTI so often ?” Parrikar said while addressing a gathering of students Sunday evening.
The chief minister was reacting to an RTI reply which reveals that the first swearing-in ceremony cost the state exchequer a whopping Rs 11 lakh.
The RTI reply was procured by activist Aires Rodrigues had revealed that the amount was spent for the swearing-in held at Sports Authority of Goa on March 9, doing away with the convention of holding it at Raj Bhavan.
“Except for the pedas (Indian sweet) and water bottles, the rest expense would have been incurred even if the ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan,” he said.
Parrikar, without naming the activist alleged that the latter had accepted a huge amount as bribe for withdrawing a rape case.
