New regime in, activists call for UP CIC’s ouster.

Daily Pioneer: Lucknow: Thursday, May 17, 2012.
With change of guard in Uttar Pradesh, RTI activists and organisations have upped the ante against State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), RS Pankaj, protesting misconduct and poor functioning of the commission.
Pankaj is one of the most controversial chief information commissioners in the country facing charges of misconduct with complainants alleging that commission staff were shielding the previous BSP Government from inconvenient queries.
His appointment itself, during previous BSP government, had raised storm as the then leader of Opposition, Shivpal Singh Yadav’s consideration was not taken in to account before sending recommendation for appointment to Governor.
His name was recommended by a three member-committee led by the Chief Minister and the leader of Opposition being one of the members. Last year the Governor had received a large number of complaints against Pankaj and a few information commissioners. Around 300 complaints, maximum in the country at that time, were forwarded to CM Mayawati for necessary action.
