City-based advocate M. Loganathan claims to have documentary evidence against 12 universities in the state that have allegedly indulged in corruption, in connivance with Barnas International Private Limited company, in the wake of raids conducted by the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC), here on Saturday.
The DVAC on Friday conducted raids at six places in Chennai, including the residence of former vice-chancellor of Anna University Chennai and the premises of Barnas International company at Vepery, Chennai, and claimed to have obtained incriminating documents.
Speaking to mediapersons here, Mr Loganathan said he has obtained documentary evidence, running into about 500 pages, for the alleged involvement of Barnas International in creating bogus companies to strike business deal with the 12 universities.
“All the documents have been obtained through right to information (RTI) Act. Barnas International Private Limited had made bogus companies to conduct business with the universities,” said Mr Loganathan.
According to him, he had sent a detailed report on the alleged corruption charges against the universities to the chief minister, chief secretary and director general of police in January 2012.
“The raids at the residence of the former vice-chancellor of Anna University and at Barnas International company is not enough. All the 12 universities should be brought under the scanner. Otherwise, we will approach the high court for a CBI probe,” said Mr Loganathan.
The advocate had obtained RTI information from about 21 universities. “Corruption at education premises should never be allowed. We have obtained these documents in the past six months,” he said.
