Jammu, Feb 24: The full bench of J&K State Information Commission reserved orders on appeals praying for declaring Jammu and Kashmir Bank as ‘Public Authority’ under J&K Right to Information Act 2009.
The bench headed by Chief Information Commissioner, G R Sufi reserved the order after hearing counsel for the parties.
While the bank was represented by senior advocate Zaffar Shah, RTI activist and advocate Vilakshan Singh who is also one of the complainants along with RTI activist Raman Sharma appeared for the other side.
Referring to a plethora of law laid down by Supreme Court and High Courts, both sides strongly pleaded their case before the full bench.
Senior lawyer Z A Shah while pleading that the bank does not fall under section 2(f) of the JK RTI Act 2009, argued that it cannot be declared as a ‘public authority.’
However, the other side referred to various High Court judgments, which according to them supported their contention of declaring the bank as ‘public authority.’
Earlier, Chief Information Commissioner GR Sufi had constituted a full bench of the J&K SIC to hear the matter.
