Ex-corporator ‘gobbles up’ BDA corner site.

Bangalore Mirror: Chetan.Rudrappa:Thursday, September 22, 2011.
RTI activist alleges Anwar Sharieff, who used to represent Anwar Layout, forged documents showing that the landwas allotted to him.
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is yet to act on a former corporator who has allegedly forged documents to pocket a plush corner site in Pillanna Garden IInd stage. Anwar Sharieff has built a building worth over Rs 1 crore on the plot after showing that the site was allotted to him.
Abdul Haq Surati, an RTI activist pursuing the case, alleges, “The records showing that the property is in his name are bogus. There is no provision to allot a BDA corner site.”
The 1,500sq ft site was bought by one Abdul Khadar in an auction in 1990. However, the sale was terminated when Abdul failed to pay the amount. In official records, the site, whose current market value is about Rs 1 crore, still belongs to the BDA.
However, Sharieff, a former corporator of Anwar Layout, took possession of the site and constructed a three-storey building on it, alleges Surati. “He also managed to borrow close to Rs 9 lakh by mortgaging the site.”
Shivkumar, another RTI activist, says, “According to the BDA Act, corner sites are allotted only through auction. If a sale deed for a BDA corner site is registered by someone who hasn’t got it in an auction, then its illegal.”
In this case, according to records obtained under RTI Act, after Abdul Khadar failed to pay up, there was no second auction.
When contacted, BDA executive engineer Krishnappa said, “We are not aware of it. We will be looking into it. If any corner site is registered illegally, action will be initiated against them immediately.”
Surati says, “We are wondering how BDA officials couldn’t notice the construction on their land for 18 years and ignored the violation. This does not happen with the general public. I have urged BDA officials to act immediately.”
