PUNE: Additional sessions judge D R Mahajan on Wednesday granted permission to the Pune unit of the CBI to interrogate three suspects involved in the murder of RTI activist Satish Shetty.
CBI special public prosecutor Ayub Pathan filed a plea before the court seeking permission to interrogate Navnath Shelar, Dongrya Rathod and Sham Dhabade. The move to interrogate the three suspects assumes significance after the Pune unit took over the probe from the agency's special task force in Mumbai. All the three are lodged at the Yerawada central jail.
Defence lawyer Subhash Hulyalkar, representing Shelar and Rathod, did not turn up before the court when the case came up for hearing. Lawyer Sudhir Shah, representing Dabhade, did not object to the CBI plea. The court then directed the CBI additional superintendent of police, S P Singh, and his team to visit the jail to interrogate the suspects. A copy of the order was forwarded to the jail's superintendent for information and further action.
