Ahmedabad : A delegation of RTI activists led by Bharatsinh Jhala met Governor Kamla Beniwal on Friday and apprised her of the threat to their lot in the state.
In a memorandum, they requested for action against the culprits involved in attacks on RTI activists and complained that the RTI Act was not being effectively implemented in the state.
The memorandum said the RTI Act had become toothless in the state and activists were being attacked and killed while the state government looked the other way. It also demanded a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family members of slain RTI activists and Rs 5 lakh for seriously injured activists.
Advocate Bhagu Dewani, who was recently attacked in Porbander, narrated how he was attacked by mining mafias.
An alleged rape victim told the Governor she had filed 20 RTI queries to know the progress of probe into her case but got no convincing reply. The Governor took down details assured her of action. ENS
