Del. HC to examine reason behind RTI exemption to CBI.

The Delhi High Court Wednesday decided to examine the reason behind the exemption granted to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and other key agencies from the ambit of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

The division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna said, “We will examine the affidavit filed by the Ministry of Personnel and Training and the CBI on the next date of hearing."

The court today asked Additional Solicitor General Gaurav Banerjee to mention the reason for exempting the CBI from the purview of RTI Act.

The court was hearing the PIL filed by a lawyer challenging government’s notification on exemption of CBI from RTI Act ambit. Both the petitioner will file rejoinder on the replies filed by Centre and CBI.

The matter is next listed for September 7.
