NEW DELHI: The Central Information Commission asked Delhi government's health department to ensure that all private hospitals install display boards declaring that they provide emergency medical care in all cases of accidents.
Taking cognizance of a request from the Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy, the CIC directed the department to ensure that such display boards are installed at each private hospital in larger public interest as mandated under Section 4 of the RTI Act.
"The commission directs the department to fulfil its obligation under the RTI Act by installing signboards of appropriate dimensions in private hospitals/nursing homes/health facilities in Hindi declaring that it is obligatory for medical practitioners to provide emergency medical care in all cases of accidents and medico-legal cases. These should be installed at a place having maximum public view. This should be done by September 30, 2011," information commissioner Shailesh Gandhi said, adding that compliance report should be sent to him by October 5.
