Corruption alleged in NRHM scheme.

Times of India; Monday, July 25, 2011,
YAVATMAL: The central government's 'National Rural Health Mission' has run into a controversy in Yavatmal Zilla Parishad due to allegations of corruption. The scheme is to be implemented by the district health officer (DHO) in all the primary health centres (PHCs) under his jurisdiction.
Prahar's district chief Dharmendra Tarak has alleged rampant corruption in connivance with the DHO of Yavatmal. He obtained documents from the department by using the Right to Information Act (RTI) and exposed the scam by lodging a complaint with chief executive officer Navalkishor Ram.
Ram promptly ordered a probe which will be conducted by additional CEO DU Awachar. The report is to be submitted within 15 days.
Though not happy with the modus operandi of the complainant, Ram said that he ordered the probe as the allegations are serious in nature and that the public should know the truth.
In his complaint, Tarak alleged that a huge sum was pocketed by those entrusted with the implementation of the scheme. "The NRHM organizes health camps and creates awareness among the rural population but PHCs in Pusad, Umarkhed, Ralegaon, Maregaon and Digras have implemented the programme only on paper," alleged Tarak, adding "Through bogus operations and camps, the officials looted public money."
Funds from the scheme are also utilized for construction and repairs of the approach roads to the PHCs, maintenance of old buildings, purchase of electric equipment and for carrying out repairs at the houses of medical officers.
