Kochi (ABC Live): India’s former Chief Justice and National Human Right Commission Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan is fighting losing battle in front of the Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Kochi.
As per information, a RTI activist, Dr T Balachandran sought details of I-T returns filed Justice KG Balakrishnan and his family members from 2005 to 2010 but failed to get these and filled appeal at the First Appellant Authority under RTI act , where the Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Kochi acting as the First Appellant Authority asked NHRC chairperson on the issue.
During this appeal former CJI contended that, "...the petitioner/appellant is not entitled to get the details of the Income Tax returns as it is a personal document and disclosure of which is prohibited uner RTI Act."
"I reiterate my stand made clear in my reply on February 5 given to the petition filed by the appellant. That may be read as part of the counter statement. I have no objection in disclosing my total income or taxable income or the amount paid as income tax during the 2005 to 2010," he said.
