PCMC corporator alleges irregularities in hospital cathlab.

PUNE: Pimpri-Chinchwad corporator Varsha Madigeri on Wednesday alleged that the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation had suffered financial losses due to irregularities in the running of the cathlab at the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital. The cathlab is being managed at the PCMC-run hospital on public-private partnership basis. However, civic authorities have said that the allegations made by the corporator were not correct.
Madigeri told reporters on Wednesday that the information procured by her with the help of an RTI application confirmed the irregularities. The cathlab, having diagnostic imaging equipment for checking heart-related ailments, was started by the municipal corporation two years back.
Madigeri charged that the medical department was not authorised to have an agreement for running the cathlab, and that the agreement should have been done by the lands and estate department of the corporation. Madigeri said the corporation went on a medical equipment purchase spree and that there were discrepancies involved in the tender process while setting up the cathlab. Madigeri said she would be filing a public interest litigation in the matter.
When contacted, medical officer of health K Nagkumar said all rules were followed while setting up the cathlab on PPP basis. "The PCMC's main aim behind setting up the cathlab was not to earn money, but to give good medical treatment at affordable cost to citizens," he said. After the hospital was constructed, it was handed over by the land records department to the medical department, hence, the contract was signed by the medical department, he added.
