MUMBAI: Newly appointed police commissioner Arup Patnaik is in no mood to delay providing information to the public. Patnaik on Friday said his is a "free" Right to Information (RTI) office and that anyone can approach it to get information.
"Mine is a free RTI office. It's transparent. Anyone can come for information and it will be provided to them at the earliest," the police chief said on Friday.
"All the information is either available on the police website or it is kept with us. If someone needs information about us, they can directly approach our office for speedy results," said Patnaik, who took charge as Mumbai's 36th police commissioner on February 28.
Patnaik has also begun the process of reviewing the status of policemen's cases who were earlier suspended for various reasons. "They are part of our family. Why keep them out? We have begun reviewing their cases to see who can be reinstated," said Patnaik. As of now, 260 police personnel from the Mumbai force are under suspension, mostly due to corruption charges.
When asked whether he had any plans to discontinue the city police's magazine, The Protector, Patnaik, said, "What purpose does it serve ? Moreover, there is no GR issued to run this magazine."
On Friday morning, Patnaik also visited the Nagpada police hospital to examine its condition. It is also learnt that senior police officers want the Worli maternity home to restart.
