RTI on meet

Calcutta Telegraph; Thursday , February 24 , 2011,
Shillong, Feb. 23: The BJP’s Meghalaya unit today filed an application under the RTI Act with the North Eastern Hill University, seeking information on whether NSUI, the students’ wing of the Congress, had sought permission from the Nehu authorities before organising a “political function” on the campus.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had held an interaction with students at Nehu on February 14, after which NSUI volunteers had distributed forms inviting youths to join the union.
Various quarters have since questioned the use of Nehu as a venue for holding the NSUI meeting that aimed at enrolling members.
In the RTI application addressed to the public information officer of Nehu, BJP general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty asked Nehu to provide a copy of the application, if any, of NSUI seeking permission and Nehu’s statement of approval. He also asked whether Nehu would allow other parties to hold such functions on its campus if they sought permission.
