CHANDIGARH: Two days after Punjab and Haryana high court ordered dismissal of seven cops, including two DSPs, who were convicted for murder, Punjab Police has started dismissal proceedings against the tainted cops.
The state home department has also issued notices to DSP Ravinder Kumar and Rajinder Pal Anand seeking their reply on why should they not be dismissed from services in the context of recent instructions of the HC. The notices have been sent following intimation by police department to the home department as the final authority of dismissing officials of this rank rests with the state government. IG (headquarters) SS Chauhan said in cases of ASI Malvinder Singh and four others cops, including a head constable, and three constables, the concerned SSPs were instructed for initiating the proceeding against them.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed Punjab police for dismissing all eight cops, who were convicted under section 302 (murder) of the IPC but were reinstated in the services on grant of bail from the competent authorities. The state police would be filed a reply in this connection through advocate general (AG) office in the high court on February 21. The directions were issued onPIL), filed by Advocate HC Arora, who obtained the information about the tainted cops through RTI Act.
Sources said DSP Ravinder Kumar had earlier too been dismissed, but was taken back after his sentence was suspended. DSP Rajinder Pal Anand, who was convicted on December 16, 2007, has not been removed purportedly on grounds that approval for his dismissal has not been received from Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).
