KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court on Monday has directed police to arrest an advocate practising at Barasat and Barrackpur courts, but who is not registered with the Bar Council of West Bengal.
Bikash Dutt of Khardah had filed an RTI application before the Bar Council of West Bengal on November 11, 2010, seeking details if Jashmir Hossain was an advocate registered with it as he had claimed.
In its reply on December 9, 2010, the council stated that Hossain was not registered and has no right to practice.
Earlier, Bikash had lodged an FIR in the Khardah police station against Hossain, alleging cheating relating to a gift deed that his brother had executed in Bikash's favour. Hossain, who said he was an advocate, got anticipatory bail in November 2009.
Bikash then moved the high court for cancellation of Hossain's bail. On Monday, Justice Ashim Kumar Banerjee cancelled the bail and directed North 24 Parganas police to arrest Hossain immediately
