Varsity official fined for inaction over RTI query

Patna: The Bihar Information Commission has slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on the Registrar of Tlka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) for his failure to provide information sought under the Right to Information Act (RTI).
The Bihar Information Commissioner Shakeel Ahmad, in his order issued on December 13, slapped the fine on the TNBU Registrar-cum-Information Officer for not giving information to applicant Jai Prakash Narain Jha, an employee of the university posted in History Department.
Jha, in an application submitted to the university’s Information Officer on April 18, 2009, had sought specific information from the Registrar but the latter failed to give relevant information to the applicant till date.
The Commissioner asked the Registrar cum Public Relations Officer of the university to provide information by January 20, 2011 and fixed January 27 the next date of hearing of the appeal.
Jha had sought detailed information from the Registrar of the university about payments of the employees of the university.
