An RTI query has revealed just why no bureaucrat tainted by the Adarsh scam has been prosecuted yet.
In a possible indication of the state government’s reluctance to prosecute Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officers, information obtained from the state’s records shows how the government has consistently declined permission to prosecute civil servants.
In the past 10 years, there were 14 occasions when investigative agencies had sought the state’s permission to prosecute IAS officers. Twelve of these applications were turned down.
The agencies that have been pressing these applications for a sanction range from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to various departments of the state government itself.
This information was given by the state’s general administration department, in response to an RTI by activist Vihar Durve.
