LUDHIANA: Residents would no longer have to face harassment while visiting police stations, as Punjab Police is developing suvidha centres at the sub-division level and out-reach centres at police station level.
Under the police comissionerate system, the sub-divisions of Ludhiana east, west, north, central, south, Atam park and Sahnewal area would have one Suvidha centre each whereas under the Gill sub-division sadar, Dehlon and Ladowal police stations would have out-reach posts.
Sources said the government allotted Rs 85 lakh by the government for the project. While Rs 10 lakh was allotted for each Suvidha centre, Rs 5 lakh was allotted for each of the three out-reach posts.
Reception counters, waiting rooms, drinking water and lavatory facilities would be available for the convenience of visitors. Required staff would also be appointed for these centres. The counters for lodging complaints, passport verification, police clearance certificate, information sought under RTI, details regarding arms and ammunitions wing would also be established.
Department of Punjab Police Housing Corporation, Punjab, Chandigarh would be responsible for the construction works. Tenders were allotted and the funds transferred to the department concerned. The project would be completed by February 28. Commissioner police Ishwar Singh said, "These endeavours are to improve the public-police relations."
