Making property deals public: CIC seeks view

TNN, Dec 11, 2010,
NEW DELHI: In a move towards greater transparency , property transactions could well be made public if the Central Information Commission ( CIC) has its way. The Commission has asked the Delhi government for its views on the issue.
RTI applicant S P Manchanda had sought to know from the Delhi government's revenue department the registration details of a property traded by him in 2000, but was informed that they do not maintain a property-wise list. The department informed him that it would be impossible to locate from the records when the particular property was registered. Manchanda then approached the Commission, and said he wanted to inspect the records himself to get the information.
