Goa govt in dark over police dept paying to repair IGP's car

Indian express: Sat Dec 11 2010,
Panaji : Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik on Saturday said he has no information on how the police department paid for repairing the car of an IGP that was damaged in an accident.
"I need to check first whether the department has really released the money," Naik said while talking to reporters here.
The then IGP K D Singh's son Siddharth had crashed the official car given to his father on the Panaji-Vasco Highway on December 4 last year.
Siddharth, along with four friends, including a minister's son, were returning from a discotheque when they met with the accident.
The incident had raised eyebrows as Singh had said that his official car was taken by his son without his knowledge.
The police department, in a written reply to a query made under Right To Information (RTI) act, had said the car was repaired by paying Rs 4.30 lakh from a police fund.
Stating that while the rules are clear that a government vehicle has to be repaired from the government funds, State Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava said on Saturday, "But here the case is different. We need to see how the police have paid the money to repair the car."
Pointing out that he had not sanctioned the money to repair the car, he said, "The file has not come to me, so I don't know who paid the money."
He refused to say whether money spent on the repairs would be reimbursed by the former IGP.
