PTI: 14 DECEMBER 2010
New Delhi: The names and other details of children who died at 'Asha Kiran' a government-run shelter for mentally challenged-- should be made public, the CIC has held rejecting the argument of authorities that these are prohibited from disclosure under the Juvenile Justice Act.
The case relates to an RTI plea of R H Bansal who had sought from Social Welfare Department of Delhi Government the information about inmates who died at the shelter since its inception along with their post-mortem details.
"The PIO has provided the information that in the last five years there have been 85 deaths in Asha Kiran itself and 130 deaths have occurred in hospital. The PIO has also informed the appellant that the postmortems has been done in 42 cases and not done in 173 cases," Information Commissioner Shailesh Gandhi noted in his order.
