Let CJI select judges to probe land scams: Revanna

TNN, Nov 17, 2010,
BANGALORE: JD(S) leader H D Revanna has demanded a judicial inquiry into land scams in the state.
He told reporters on Tuesday why chief minister B S Yeddyurappa was reluctant to order a probe. "We want the Chief Justice of India to select the panel of judges. Let him write a letter and request the CJI,'' he added.
He wanted Yeddyurappa to step down till the inquiry was over. "The BJP's national leaders sought the resignation of Maharashtra CM and Union telecom minister. Why are they keeping quiet about their CM? If they have guts, they should take action immediately,'' he said.
Revanna alleged a battery of advisers and officials in the CM's secretariat were aiding the CM in his illegal deeds. "Why does he have so many advisers and officials? Are they working to ensure the state's welfare or to aid the CM in his illegal acts?'' he asked.
According to Revanna, IAS officer B G Nanda Kumar, joint secretary to the CM, got the job by producing a false caste certificate. "He belongs to Arya Vaishya community which falls under the general category. But he got the job by claiming he was from a backward caste. Though there was an RTI application, the government is not furnishing information on his appointment,'' Revanna said.
It's not the first time Nanda Kumar is involved in a controversy. During the 2009 parliament elections, he was charged with distributing money to lure voters in favour of BJP.
