Jethava murder: CBI chargesheet names BJP MP’s nephew

Express News Service: Fri Nov 12 2010,
Ahmedabad : Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) has submitted its chargesheet against five accused in the Metropolitan Court in connection with the murder of RTI activist Amit Jethava.
According to DCB, Jethava was killed on a supari of Rs 11 lakh at the behest of Shiva Solanki, nephew of BJP MP from Junagadh Dinu Solanki, and a police constable, Bahadursinh Vadher.
A Division Bench of Gujarat High Court led by Chief Justice S J Mukhopadhaya is monitoring the investigation in the case. Jethava’s father has been alleging that his son was killed at the behest of Dinu Solanki. He has even filed a petition in the HC demanding a probe by an independent agency in the case, preferably CBI.
Jethava was killed on July 20 this year in front of the HC premises on the SG Highway, a few days after he filed a PIL seeking court’s intervention to check the menace of illegal mining in Gir Sanctuary. In his PIL, Jethava had made direct allegations against Dinu Solanki.
DCB, however, seem to have given a clean chit to Dinu Solanki as even his statement has not been recorded by the probe agency.
According to DCB, Vadher and Shiva conspired to kill Jethava since he had damaged their mining business through RTI applications. DCB also states that Vadher and Shiva were allegedly and illegally renting plots for installation of mobile towers and those installations had come under scanner of the authorities due to Jethava’s activism.
Vadher allegedly hired one Shailesh Pandya, who is still at large, to kill Jethava, offering him Rs 11 lakh. Pandya succeeded in his task on July 20, when he fired at Jethava with the help of one Udaji Thakor. The amount for supari killing was allegedly paid through courier services.
