NEW DELHI: Prof A K Ghosh, former head of department of aerospace engineering in IIT-Kharagpur, has been suspended, pending inquiry against him for running a fake institutre from the campus and even doling out degrees.
Highly placed sources in IIT-Kharagpur confirmed his suspension. There are also allegations that he as the Chief Vigilance Officer and chairman JEE, Kharagpur, took order for shredding off JEE papers of 2006. He did this when there were various complaints of irregularities against him. Tere was also an RTI application seeking details of cutoff and individual marks of students.
RTI's reply begore the shredding took place in December 2006 had shown gross discrepancies in the way students were admitted.
The allegation of discrepancy in JEE is already being heard by the Supreme Court after the ToI report last week.
The HRD ministry had sought the report from Damodar Acharya, director of IIT-Kharagpur, last Friday. Acharya, however, told the ministry officials that the irregularities -- be it JEE or fake institute -- were committed before he took charge.
