State CIC evaluates implementation of RTI in Mkg

MorungExpress; Mokokchung October 20,2010 (DIPR):
Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Nagaland, Talitemjen Ao assessing the implementation of Right to Information (RTI) Act in Mokokchung district with PIOs and APIOs and (Right) Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Lithrongla G. Chishi, who chaired the meeting.
Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Nagaland, Talitemjen Ao today, held a meeting with Public Information Officers (PIOs) and Assistant Public Information Officers (APIOs) of Mokokchung district to assess and evaluate the implementation of Right to Information (RTI) Act in the district.
Addressing the meeting, Talitemjen said the purpose of the meeting was to critically evaluate the implementation of the Act, as it has almost completed five years since the Act was put into force in the country. He said RTI Act aims at providing level playing field for ‘healthy exchange of information’ to ensure transparency and accountability in the governance. He called upon PIOs and APIOs to equip with the Act and further suggested that students at college level be sensitized about the Act by way of conducting essay competition on RTI Act and its implementation saying this new law is for their future.
While minutely evaluating the implementation of the Act in all departments in the district, Talitemjen regretted that even after five years of implementation of the Act, some departments in the state are not aware of this landmark Act. The CIC was however satisfied with the role of PIOs and APIOs of Mokokchung district for efficient handling of the Act. He also cautioned about misuse and abuse of the Act saying some citizens/individuals play tricks under the garb of the RTI Act. As such he appealed to all concerned officers to be well versed with the Act.
