In another rude shock to citizens worried by fast disappearing lung spaces, three Civic Amenity (CA) sites have ‘vanished’ from the heart of the City.
A query under the Right to Information Act revealed that the sites in Marenahalli ward have disappeared not only from records but also in their physical form. The sites include a a park spanning 2.25 acres, a margin land of 10,056 square feet and a 1,064 square feet vacant land.
The disappeared park is located in Maruthi Layout ‘E’ Road whereas the margin land is on First Cross, 8th Main Service Road on Magadi-Chord Road.
The vacant site is on 13th Cross Main Road. The BBMP, in its reply to the query by an RTI activist has stated that the land is ‘not in sight.’
The local corporator N Shakuntala said it was shocking that the land had gone ‘missing.’ She said the layout is quite small and has merely some 30 to 35 houses, and the ‘disappearance’ of a park in such small place is quite worrisome. She said she will pursue the case if it is so.
According to sources, the market price of the land in Maruthi Layout is not less than Rs 2,500 per square foot and thus the value of the 'missing' park is somewhere around Rs 26 crores.
Similarly, the margin land at Magadi Road is worth about Rs four crore. When contacted, a BBMP official requesting anonymity termed the reply ‘casual’. He said the revenue officials could be well-aware of the sites in question.
