With the implementation of the RTI Act, all departments will become more accountable and responsible, Punjab University VC RC Sobti said
To bring in more transparency and accountability, Punjab University has directed all its departments to implement the Right to Information Act, 2005, with immediate effect and provide the relevant information sought by applicants in a stipulated time period.
The orders have been circulated to all the departments through the office of the Registrar. According to the instructions that have been circulated, if the requisite information is not available with the university, the department concerned must direct the applicant to the right one where he/she can get the information.
“The university is going to take strict action under the RTI provisions against the official concerned for any delay in furnishing the required information to an applicant. The official concerned will be held personally responsible for the delay,” a Punjab University official said.
If in the process, any penalty is imposed on the university. The same will be recovered from the official concerned. He would also invite suitable disciplinary action, the official said.
“We won’t conceal any information from the applicants. The authorities concerned will furnish all the details sought by them. We want to make the university very transparent in its functioning. With the implementation of the RTI Act, all departments will become more accountable and responsible,” Panjab University Vice-Chancellor RC Sobti said.
According to the official, the decision on the implementation of the RTI Act has been taken in view of the rising complaints from the applicants of being not provided the required information about their marks, admission procedure, and other queries.
