PIO fined under RTI Act

State information commissioner P N Narayanan on Thursday imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the public information officer-cum-sub-divisional education officer, Purnia, for not replying to the notice of State Information Commission (SIC).

The SIC had issued notice to the sub-divisional education officer to give pointwise reply to the information sought by Divakant Jha on his right to information petition. But this order was not complied with by the officer.

The state information commissioner also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on public information officer-cum-block education extension officer, Athmalgola, Patna, Veena Mishra, for not furnishing information to an applicant Md Jabir Hussain. The SIC directed Mishra to appear before it on February 9, 2011, with show cause.
