Mud-slinging morphs to land-grabbing charges

TNN, Oct 21, 2010,
BANGALORE: On Monday, a "changed" chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said: "Henceforth, I have decided not to speak against legislators nor react to their comments against me or my government." Obviously, his resolve flew out of the window 48 hours later on Wednesday when he launched a broadside against the Congress and JD(S), accusing them of land grabbing and hinted at a judicial probe into it.
The bitterness over BJP poaching a Congress MLA S V Ramachandra translated into the Yeddyurappa offensive and threat of a judicial inquiry into land owned by KPCC president R V Deshpande and JD(S) state chief H D Kumaraswamy. "Half the total land available in and around Bangalore is owned by Deshpande and Kumaraswamy. To bring out the truth, I'm thinking of ordering a judicial inquiry into their benami properties," the CM said.
Deshpande hit back, challenging Yeddyurappa to substantiate with documents his charges. Kumaraswamy said he'd place records of all denotifications during BSY's tenure as CM. "All these documents have been obtained through RTI. From Thursday, I'll reveal land scams of this government, including those by home minister R Ashoka. Let Yeddyurappa not indulge in vama marghadaa rajkiya (devious politics)," he added.
