HYDERABAD: Expressing dissatisfaction over Rosaiah government’s failure to order a CBI probe into the Emaar Properties scam allegedly involving over Rs 10,000 crore, senior Congress leaders V Hanumanth Rao and DL Ravindra Reddy today reiterated their demand for a CBI inquiry to punish those responsible for the fraud.
They have decided to bring pressure on the Congress central leadership on the issue. “The party’s prestige will be affected if the government fails to order a CBI probe,” they remarked.
Talking to newsmen here, Hanumanth Rao said he would bring pressure on the Central government and chief minister K Rosaiah to initiate steps for inquiry by the central agency since several ‘bigwigs’ were behind the scam. “I will not keep quiet till justice is done to the poor,” he said.
Meanwhile, at a press conference in the CLP office, former minister and Mydukur MLA Ravindra Reddy released copies of the list of 89 members (received under the RTI Act) who had either purchased the land or received it as a gift from the Emaar Properties. Political leaders, including APCC chief D Srinivas, friends and relatives of several bigwigs like TDP president Chandrababu Naidu, minister Galla Aruna Kumari, industrialists and film personalities figured in the list. Reddy said he would file a public interest litigation (PIL) in the court on the issue. “I will not keep quiet until the issue is brought to a logical end. The party’s prestige is at stake,” he said.
Ravindra Reddy urged Opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu to come forward to surrender the land registered on his daughter-in-law Nara Brahmani’s name in order to prove his sincerity on Emaar issue. He also wanted the latter to write a letter to the state and Central governments seeking a CBI probe into the scam. He also urged his party leaders (D Srinivas and nine others) to surrender their lands purchased from Emaar in order to avoid embarrassment to the party and to facilitate the government to seek a CBI probe into the scam.
“It is left to the government’s wisdom whether to order a CBI probe into such a big scam. If the chief minister is not bowing to any pressures, probably he would seek an inquiry by the central investigation agency,” he remarked. Replying to a query, Reddy claimed that he would continue to fight on the ‘issues’ even if he was taken into the cabinet.
“I will not compromise on three issues -- Emaar scam, irregularities in mixer plants and naming of Kadapa district after the late chief minister Rajasekhara Reddy. There is no objection if it is named as ‘YSR Kadapa district’, he noted.
