Man alleges cop assaulted him after he filed a series of complaints
A professor of B K Menon College in Bhandup has accused Shivaji Kolekar, a senior inspector at the Meghwadi police station along with his staff for thrashing him. The latter is now facing a departmental inquiry.
Professor Kripashankar Pandey a resident of Pump House, Andheri (E) had registered several complaints against Kolekar and his staff.
On basis of his complaints, an inquiry is going on against Kolekar. Despite several attempts, Assistant Police Commissioner J S Ragi investigating the case was not available for comment.
"Pandey has filed a complaint and an inquiry is going on," said Amitabh Gupta, additional commissioner of police, (Western region).
43-year-old Pandey is a professor with BK Menon College, Bhandup. In January, he filed an RTI application seeking details from the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) about the builder's plan to develop the area he resides in.
Pandey was shocked when he saw that the builder had submitted the required consent of 340 tenants in which he alleges included the forged signature of his and his father.
Pandey then approached Meghwadi and Kherwadi police stations to file a complaint against builder. According to him, the police did not pay any heed to him. Only after he mailed the complaint, did the Meghwadi police record his statement. They also allegedly did not give him the statement copy.
Pandey said that he subsequently met the Zonal deputy commissioner of police (ACP) Prakash Muttiyal and obtained the copy.
On October 2, Pandey went to Meghwadi police station. On seeing him, Kolekar lost his cool. He and his staff then allegedly thrashed Pandey and threatened to kill him in a fake encounter. They also allegedly took his signature on a blank paper.
When contacted Kolekar rubbished the claim. He said, "Aajkal police station me kahaan policewale kisi ki pitayee karte hain!"
