CIC says govt should come out with negative list of what cannot be disclosed

New Chief Information Commissioner A.N Tiwary has said the government should come out with a negative list of what cannot be disclosed and leave rest of the areas open.

In an exclusively interview with AIR Correspondent Sarita Brara, Tiwary regretted that confidentiality is the central piece of all the government organisations and this needs to be changed. Tiwary said that majority of the RTI applications are not frivolous or vexatious. He said the number of such applications is very small and these can be dealt with passing strictures against the applicants.

Tiwari said that imposing costs for providing information is inadmissible under the Act and discretion applied should be applied. He also said that RTI activists should work in an organised manner and choose areas of general welfare of the people. This, he said, will result in improving the delivery system
