The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has sent a letter to the state government to take action against one of its engineers, for allegedly beating up a resident in the early hours of Saturday in Bommanahalli limits.
BBMP commissioner, Siddaiah has sent a complete report of the engineer’s act, who was working on deputation for the past three years.
According to BBMP sources, Vijayakumar A Patil, superintendent engineer in-charge (Town Planning), Bommahanalli, allegedly beat up KP Bhat, one of the house owners of Panduranga Nagar Bankers’ Colony Layout, who had filed an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, seeking details on the discrepancies that had taken place in the construction of several buildings.
“Patil took a prahari along with some BBMP workers around 1am to the colony on Saturday and tried to demolish the building of Bhat, alleging that it violated the bylaws," said a source.
"But when Bhat and his wife, Shailaja protested, the engineer, who was in an inebriated condition, beat him up. Bhat, who was injured and was bleeding in the face, was taken to a nearby hospital. Later, he filed a complaint with the JP Nagar police stating that the engineer was drunk and hit him”, said a source.
When contacted, joint commissioner Shivabasavaiah said that the suspension order has already been sent to Patil for his unruly behaviour.
