More branches under e-governance in Nalbari

Assam Tribune ; NALBARI, Sept 9;
In order to redress the public grievances, and to ensure speedy disposal of files, the Nalbari district administration included more branches under its ongoing e-governance system.
The new branches of Nalbari Deputy Commissioner’s office included in the e-governance system are Public Facilitation Centre, RTI Cell, Character and Caste Verification, NOC for passport, arms licensing, dak management, file management, Bakijai cases, land revenue collection, old-age pension, national family benefit scheme, MPLAD and MLALAD schemes, Nazarat accounts, pay roll, revenue works done by circles, among others.
The use of information and communication technology in all branches of the district supported by an effective computerised system has helped the district administration in addressing different issues and problems in an efficient way.
The district administration also developed the infrastructure by repairing and renovating the rooms and halls as well as the officer’s chambers. All the halls and rooms are now fitted with air-conditioners. They have also made sitting arrangements for the employees in the form of corporate style workstations, thus ensuring greater comfort for the employees compared to the earlier system. Further, all workstations are interlinked with access to the district server as well as internet.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Fakaruddin Ahmed, who is the person behind the e-governance system, informed that during early 2008, the then Deputy Commissioner GD Tripathy first started the process of modernization of the office which got accelerated in the later period under the guidance of the present Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Agnihotri.
Ahmed further added that the new system is also improving the work culture of the employees, increasing the efficiency and transparency in the administration. The system has also minimized the dependence on assistance to a great extent in discharge of duties by the officers. He stated that the e-governance system introduced way back in early 2009 is practically a combination of different applications designed and developed for different branches.
The application has been designed on XP platform with MSSQL server as the database. This is a client server application staged in the district server accessible from all nodes of the district. At present there are more than thirty nodes using the application by different branches.
ADC Ahmed stated that the new pay roll system has proved to be effective tools for maintenance of pay and salary accounts of all the employees. Pay bills are now quickly generated through the new system. He admitted that the application has helped the administration in creation of a systematic database on almost all subjects of the district which is a requirement under Section 4 (I) of RTI Act enabling the citizens to get information through the public information centre.
