Get any land records in minutes

Bangalore Mirror ; Deepthi Shridhar ; Wednesday, September 08, 2010 ;
CENTURY-old records in the revenue department of Dakshina Kannada will soon be available at the click of a mouse.
The district administration is in the process of cataloguing and scanning all old documents.
An official from the deputy commissioner's office said old documents comprise mutation copies, copies of land grants & conversions, and applications under the Right to Information Act (RTI).
As these documents are not preserved in a scientific way, they are difficult to trace.
Considering the importance of these documents, Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj has asked all the taluk offices to catalogue and index all the documents in a systematic manner.
In addition, documents coming under 'permanent documents' category in Puttur and Mangalore are also being scanned.
"They will be stored in the system, so any applicant will be able to obtain his documents within minutes," said the DC.
The entire process might require a year to complete as every document has to be scanned and stored.
This project is being taken up on a pilot basis. Once it gets the government approval, it will be extended to other taluks in different districts.
